Hibernative

A frosted eye look because I am from a snow place. A hibernation instinct is hitting me hard this month and of course custom won't let me follow my animal nature so... There is no snow, but talk of skiing in Aspen at the Crosthwaite family gathering. Sparklers and coffee in hand we braved the night chill for a photo op. Since last week, for sure, I know I have been fighting off a dreaded something . Human and his mom have already succumb to it (in one form or another) and for me, I knew it's a matter of time. Bolstered with caffeine, I was able to have a lovely time at the one seasonal party I have been able to attend. Then, with alluring temperatures, Christmas morning enticed me out. Once again, going against my "lazy" inclinations, I dragged Human with me to the beach. We could not pass up this, erherm... Yule Tide... ahem... but that Santa Ana Wind, that diseased carrying strumpet , was my downfall. By evening, I was sporting a low grade fever that spiked

Then Smaug is Draco's Evil Uncle?

The dragon did not have his day.. and I am ever wondering why they did not read the book. It was a SHORT one. The decision to see the second part of the Hobbit (guh) trilogy was random. I was out with My Human on a little adventure to see dance and theatre at CEART  in Tijuana. When we had had enough of salsa, we walked back to the taxis and stopped in at the shopping mall. I was not impressed the with 3D.  I was not impressed with many of the changes that the film team chose. They appeared nervous about straying away from the book. They can't even make up new dialogue so many, many of the scenes were awkward / stiff for no reason. To me, they have rehashed Tolkien's stuff ad nauseam that I am becoming convinc

Seeing the Life Below

A tiny miracle happened down here in this land of bottle water and drafty sunshine. A friend from waay up in Queens made the trek across the states and the border to see a bit of the life that is Baja- Below. I had this impression that no one would EVER take me up on my offer to come down to see Jesus embracing the Pacific Ocean, hear chickens that need their timers reset, cuddle baby lions... and then- the stars aligned just right and  Hiram Pines  shows up with one of his L.A. friends,  Jess Porter . Luh-vly PEOPLE!  We sat and had a laugh about German - our different levels of language understanding being the funniest part. Our word for the day was the verb transitive- to prostitute. We drank a lively, satisfying wine with other local goodies from one of my favoritest stops along the wine route La Casa Dona Lupe . For me, it is the Italian(!) / Mexican equivalent of Brookfield Apple Orchard  in Massachusetts; which I visited often enough in my youth to have a forever fondness for i
