A Taco Stand Experience

Tonight was designated taco night and the Human took me into TJ to have my very own, authentic taco stand experience. This was more hard core than usual because the rain. When it rains around here the streets turn into canals unexpectedly- unfortunately none of the vehicles here are part boat for these times of need. The other unique danger is the presence of police officers. They tend to attract bullets. But this night was so lousy there were no cops and I didn't think there would even be any hits in this kind of weather. The Human took me to his favorite place to eat tripe and or cabesa de vaca tacos; a place called Franc Tacos or some such. This obviously is not a vegan experience not matter how much meat product is not on a taco shell. We dodged the rain drops and sat at the most happening place: right at the counter. The warming trays were wafting the smells of gray meats in our faces while the chefs masterfully chopped everything up right quick and threw handfuls of this and...

heating system's praise

When I went out of my home, I knew my body had no sense of the actual temperature outside. I knew it more as my strides lengthened the distance between me and my clanging heat system and yet I still felt it's warmth my clothes, in the blood making centers of my bones. How easy it is to live here in the North East when you have heat! How pleasant the experience of the cold becomes when you know it won't actually be cracking your skin for months without ceasing! It has been just about three years since the city had me in rough ways. I remembered how this same temperature -39F was cold to stay long in without heat, but not deadly so. It did mean that my hands would be stiff and numb-useless hold a fork, to write or paint... I can still remember trying to survive 11F under layers of clothes and blankets; shivering to unconsciousness because there was nothing else you could do. My thought was: endure it. Survive. I held on long enough to come out of that feral existence and though t...

uncomfortable wisdoms from the tm

at some point in my young life, when i was under the influence of it's joy, declared that yellow was my favorite color. later when i learned that it was the color of both cowardice and creativity i was ever more certain that i war right in claiming it. i am uncomfortable with using people's names- saying them. use of nick names/pet names can be even worse sometimes because those are even more familiar. sorry but, i will always love darth vader more than any of you. not all little girls follow the pattern of giggly falling in love with luke skywalker and then discover how hot the bad boy han solo is. oh no. my heart went straight for the god-man-cyborg; the scarred old handicapped war vet.. i do not often eat animal products, but i don't really think of myself as a vegan- it is just a concise label to cover what has become something too long to explain when trying to get a meal. i will not deny that i have the nature of a territorial predator. i am a hunter, a stalker. i...
