traveling up into the north
he braved the forests and swamps
dared to see the tropical aspects
of where that swamp girl thing comes from
slug gnat
mosquito ever present
frog snake
rodent and deer
red bird in the trees
pricker bushes with no rosy beauty
poison ivied maple trees
with mites galling their leaves
lush trickery that can
make you forget what it is like
when all that rich abundance of life
gives itself over
to another much quieter perspective
to a landscape frozen and barren
where the air smells like cold coming to stay too long
